WHERE ARE THEY NOW? NAIA national runner-up Brett Quitiquit of @MUCrusadersGolf

LIVONIA, Mich. - This is the ninth entry in the Madonna University athletics “Where Are They Now?” alumni feature being released each week to highlight what our student-athletes are doing in the world since graduation. See all of the features here.

This week we caught up with 2011 graduate Brett Quitiquit who earned a Bachelor’s degree in sport management/business.

Brett is one of the most accomplished men’s golfers in MU program history. His best season came during the 2009-10 year as he won the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference individual title and led the team to the team championship. He then finished as national runner-up, six strokes shy of the winner. He was named to the All-Tournament team and an NAIA All-American as well as Ping All-Northern Region Team. He also played individually at the 2011 national tournament.

It was a lot of fun. There were a lot of feelings going on, a lot to control, but it was a great experience.

Right after graduation I coached golf at Siena Heights University for five years. I left that to become a major account manager with Republic Waste Services. It’s a great job and I love what I do.
It was a lot of fun. There were a lot of feelings going on, a lot to control, but it was a great experience. It was great to have my teammates and coaches there.
Being a student-athlete teaches you how to juggle several different things. In my job now I have several things going on. It really taught me out to organize, keep everything together and get the job done.
The first WHAC conference championship that qualified us for nationals was just an amazing experience. We won it by one stroke. It was a little pressure-packed that day. The whole team was there supporting us and it was awesome.
Originally I was going to sign with Northwood University, but I was playing in the Michigan Amateur Qualifier with Steve South, who was the MU captain at the time. I was going to sign with Northwood that afternoon, but Steve convinced me to come join the Crusaders. It felt like a good fit for me.
Enjoy it. It gets a little crazy as a student-athlete. Sometimes you have a meltdown trying to juggle everything. The biggest thing is there’s nothing like it, enjoy it while you can.
