LIVONIA, Mich.– The Madonna University women's soccer team kicked off the 2019 campaign by capturing the seasons first win by a score of 1-0. Megan Verant scored the Golden goal in Overtime to seal the deal for the Crusaders.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Madonna (1-0) 1, Huntington (0-1) 0

• The Crusaders set the offensive tone early as they had four chances in the first 15 minutes of play.
• In the 22nd minute Brooke Bruletti had her sole save on the afternoon on a shot from Avery Giguere.
• The Crusaders had a fury of shots that were wide of the net over the course of the game.
• In the 84th minute Cierra Von zittwitz had a great header from Grace Thomas in the corner that hit the crossbar and was saved by the Forester goalie.
• Verant scored the game-winner 20 yards out on a through ball from Thomas.

COACH'S CORNER

• "Overall I thought we played well. We controlled the play for the most part and we had many chances to score.  We made a few mistakes in the back but recovered nicely. We struggled to score and that will be an area we will focus on in practice. It was a solid start to the season. We came away with the win and we were able to identify areas for improvement, so overall not bad for the first match." - Head Coach Paul Patton

• The goal today was Verant's third career game-winner
• The Crusaders outshot the Foresters 22-4 over the course of the game
• Bruletti recorded her first career shutout in goal
• The Blue and Gold are now 5-0-1 against the Foresters, with the tie coming back in 2017
